A VOLUNTEER Visiting Service has been in operation in Horsham for many years to provide support to older people, following their discharge from hospital.
In 2004, the successful WRVS visiting service was merged into the Age Concern Horsham District scheme.
The service was expanded to the housebound and to aid confidence building after discharge from the Health Service Community Rehabilitation Support Team.
Over 80 people are visited each week.
Visitors all carry Age Concern identification cards which should be produced at each visit, and if it is convenient, will often stay to have a friendly chat with people and try to find any immediate concerns that can be helped. They try to ensure that all the services available in the community are known about.
Many lasting friendships have been made by visitors in this way.
